Discovery India for Pre-schoolers

Junior's school is celebrating "Small World" week from tomorrow. Parents are invited to explain about their country for pre-schoolers. And I signed up for the same without much planning ... after all I grew up in India and could very well speak about my home country. Boy ... how wrong was I !! Its very tricky coming up with concepts for 3 year olds .... really.

So far, I have come up with Indian flag ... festivals of India ... National Bird / Animal. I am unsure what else would be relevant for 3 year olds from across the globe. (there are Chinese, Taiwanese, French, American, Japanese, German kids in Junior's class) The presentation is supposed to be for 10 mins .. Ideas plsssssssssssss ....

Update:
The presentation went quite well ... thank you all for the wonderful ideas. I prepared slides for Indian flag / map, festivals, vacation spots, food, dances and taught the kids to say "Namaste". I also had a slide which showed personal pics of us as a family celebrating festivals. A true winner with the kids :)

hmmm...not sure how much you can actually say because of the time constraints, but still here is what came to my mind first thing:

Multiple languages/ways of dressing? Food options...

Hey! I like your blog very much and follow it regularly! Of course, this is the 1st time I am commenting :)
You can talk about Music and Musical Instruments. Eg. VeeNe.

you could do a quick two slide thing on the various dance forms (take up the four directions and four dances - Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kathak and perhaps Garba), or you could take up the dresses of various states or the key ones...one for each direction...or the key food for each direction...may be rice in south, fish in east, roti in west..etc etc..

Stick to one state and talk about it? Like when I read a Tamil book for the book week, I told them Tamil nadu is a state in India and we speak Tamil and taught them a few words in Tamil (Vanakkam, nandri, etc...) and read a book. Good luck! 3 yr olds are better than 6 yr olds. They ask a dozen questions a minute! ;)

Considering you are talking to a global community abt India, u shd probably gv them a snapshot of the country.. the weather, our dressing, our food, hospitality etc, festivals etc.. U can try things like Holi, Kite flying, diwali to draw the point home.
