When was the last time you relived your childhood?

Remember those carefree days as child when you jumped and splashed rain water .... you wore Hawaii chappals and walked without worrying about the annoying sounds it made while walking ... getting all soaked in the beach not worrying about your clothes getting wet or your body being exposed .... building sand castles for hours together and breaking them in minutes ... slurping on those lollies (popsicles) ...
Well I got a chance to re-live one of those moments last weekends. We were invited to a birthday party at this place.

Both the girls were excited from the get go. Cantaloupe wished the birthday boy and didn't waste any time in climbing one of those inflatables. Not to be left behind our Junior ran behind her sister ... but obviously couldn't climb up those inflatables and yelled out for her dad. I was exchanging pleasantries with the hostess and what do I see when I turn back ... 2 girls and their dad bouncing up and down in style. They then moved on to those giant slides. Without a hint of hesitation all 3 spent almost 30 mins on the slides ... when BP realised that there was another person who had accompanied him to the party .. ME !
He came towards me sweating because of all the jumping and urged me to try on the giant slide ... I was ill prepared for this kind of party ... had worn a skirt and refused his offer. But there was only so much I could contain myself. There was another mini slide beside and I just HAD to experience the thrill. I went in those inflatable dens (is that what they are called) and climbed up the stairs which I must admit was a daunting task given the wobbly surface and my long skirt and came down the slide .... AWESOME experience I tell you. I bounced up and down as if there was no tomorrow with my girls until my legs hurt. Actually No ... until it was time to cut the cake.

It had almost been ages since I felt so liberated doing such a simple task as jumping and going down a slide.
When was the last time you relived your childhood moments?

I still do a lot of crazy stuff with my 5 year old. There are times when she says that I am acting like a Pre-K-ish. :| Yep! she thinks now being 4 is so childish.

Sometimes daughter and I wear our raincoats and go out in the rain. We live in a small town (almost a village). So it is all the more fun.

Actually a lot of those stuff I never did while growing up because I didn't enjoy it back then.:) I was a homebody who had her head in the books back then. So this is fun.

@Sujatha: pillow fights are still alien to my girls ... they don't know what they are missing. I am in no hurry to introduce it coz Junior is too little and her safety might be an issue.

@Swaram: Big Big High F5. Yep the cycle took me through all classes and school ... you learnt dance as well?? Nice ... btw any chance from Mysore? I learnt dance from Vasundhara Doraswamy :)

S is scared of big closed slides. She will only go in my lap. I have so much fun going down the slide with her than any other time I did it for myself!

Oh yeah! I tried reliving it when I visited Boo and broke my leg! :-)

@Swaram: now that I know its your native, I know we can have long discussion about how awesome Mysore is :D

@Poppins: Reading doesn't count since you would do it anyways ... with / without kids. You know there are some things you would do with your kid and realise you did the same things while growing up and it brings up all those memories of your growing years ... awesome feeling I tell you.

Cantaloupes.Amma (CA) said...

@Lakshmi: See thats another thing about the kids... they give you an excuse to be silly and have fun.

@YY: LOL ! See thats the situation when you forgot you were supposed to be safe ... but hey ... tell me honestly, being one among the kids is fun ... isn't it?

Pump-it-up parties are just wonderful isn't it? I do sometimes let go off my inhibitions and get dirty along with the kids :)

Haudu haudu! It is the best place and I cant think of any other place to settle down later in life ;)

Cantaloupes.Amma (CA) said...

@MNamma: You know, I have been living in US for long enough to know about these places ... but sadly I learnt them only 2 weeks back.

@Swaram: Yep ... Mysore sure is retirees paradise ... sadly BP doesn't think so ... so its not in our retirement plan right now :(

aaah what fun.. I am constantly seen playing soccer and racing my son at the play ground we frequent.. I used to slide too.. when he was younger and we frequented a more scantily used place! As for the inflatables.. they are so tempting arent they? its been ages since we went.. and even then it was for open play.. so I couldnt have joined in :(

I think it was in our summer vacation when the kids n I were equally goggle-eyed in the plane, and sharing the fun of the Shimla toy train.

Glad you had a blast!

I agree with Sujata. Pillow fights is fun. My daughter got the hang of it only sometime back. Earlier she thought mom gone mad trying to hit her with a pillow. LOL

Now she loves it.

CA, You are right. It is like we are reliving our childhood and also doing so many things that we didn't enjoy back then.

@Preethi: See thats the thing, in a lot of these community parks close to home, we are so conscious. We play with our kids sure ... we encourage them to do stuff, may even demonstrate them certain things, but never really let go of our inhibitions because we are being observed. Thats what happened to me in the party ... for a few minutes, I forgot there were people around me and what they thought about a 30 something lady bouncing up and down ... and it felt GOOD !

Cantaloupes.Amma (CA) said...

@Starry: Ah ! The toy train ride ... i have done those small train rides in local parks, but want to do the Shimla kind ones in the outdoors. I loooove those rides.

@G: Tree climbing ... WOW ! That was one of my must do activities when I was very little. I love climbing trees and grew up in a gated colony where there were plenty of trees ...

@Solilo: And we MUST thank our kids for giving us a second chance to enjoy doing silly things ... right?

Sounds like great fun. I love to dance and that's currently one of the favorite activities Sunday afternoons, with the little one.
