(after Naata, Mandori raaga will come)
Me: yes.. it is Mandaari :)
J: Amma which raaga is this?
Me: Begade
J: Ade nanna room idyalla Melgade (oh ... my room is top floor ... top floor = Melgade)
Me: ROFL .. It is Begade not Melgade
J: Are you sure? (in English)
J (listening to Kande Na Govinda na song) : Oh ide... snaana time (oh this is bath time)
Me : what? (suddenly light bulb flashes ... we say Govinda, end of bath)

Cantaloupe: She means Vanilla milk

I really wish now at the age of 29 that I had learnt carnatic music when my mom had sent me to classes...it gives you so much a sense of peace :)

@Swaru: Rescue ranger thing was hilarious ... madam is barely 3 ft tall and thinks she is a ranger !
@Bubblecatcher: Yep .. kids really make connections and it takes a while for us to get what they are saying !
@K3: The formative years are the best .. and then they reach the "Know it All" teenage phase ... and mellow down later, only to realize, we haven't known a lot all the while ;)
@Pixie: I just love it when the girls identify the ragas ... hoping for a day when we go for a concert and debate on the nitty gritty details of talas / raagas ...
@Pepper: The big sister has always been our translator and she says everything as a matter of fact .... there is never a hint of doubt .. in fact I think she wonders why we parents are not getting what the sister is clearly saying !
@SAB: Older sister has come to our rescue so many times ... I shudder to think of situations when the little one explains something and we don't get it ... she gets easily frustrated !
@ALL : Regarding the ragas .. kids are familiar with only few ragas as of now.... Karadi rhymes has been influential in some ways.
For easy identification, I have used Karadi rhymes for raga identification
For Eg: Sa sings the sunflower is "Kalyani"
"Red is amma's bindi" is Mohana
and so on ... they may not identify a lot of ragas ... but I am hopeful someday they will :)
